Special Request Quilts

Parents or family friends can request a special quilt to be made for their medically-impacted child. The simple form can be found here. These special quilts are made with the recipient’s favourite colours and designs in mind. The sizes on these quilts is typically for a single bed, and the quilts themselves usually have either 12 or 20 hand stitched or machine embroidered squares. We do have the ability to do these as pieced blocks too.

We do carefully consider each case and then get busy organizing our stitching bee. Members scramble through their patterns to find just the right design for their contribution. Hand stitching can take the longest, with some squares taking 40 – 60 or even more stitching hours to complete. Squares are sent to the Quilt Coordinator who will wash and trim the squares, then send them on to the quilters for that final magical touch. These handmade creations can take a year or more from start to finish. We do have less personalized emergency quilts available.
